About Me
My name is Xiao Liu, and I come from China. You can call me Katie because I know it's very difficult for people who cannot speak Chinese to pronounce Xiao, and I won' t make you do that.
I studied for my bachelor degree at North China University of Technology, and my major was Digital Media Art, which contains web making, game development, filming, film editing, interactive design and so on. By the year I entered the university, I participated in the student council, creating posters and tickets and so on for our school events. I gained a lot of experience during that period, and I got feedbacks from my ministers and teachers. They helped me a lot with my design and products. At the end of my first year in the university, I even got some opportunities to design for small companies.
Although most of my experiences are about computer and design, I like challenges and trying new things. During the summer holiday in 2015, I had an opportunity to study in Center for Digital Media, which is a collaborating program between UBC, SFU, Emily Carr, and BCIT. Although I only took classes there for one month, I got to understand the flow of making games and working as a good group member. It's so interesting to try to do some new things different from my professional area. It was different from what I have learned, but not so different, I still understand what they are talking about, and this class led me closer to the profession of game and app making. It was an amazing experience and showed me a fascinating world, made me more interested in challenging myself into something new.
